I'm so glad I don't live in this neighborhood.

some of you may know that we sold our previous house and bought a new one - during the process we stayed at my sisters and father in laws at various times to keep me in school.  My sister lives in a semi gated community and blah blah this shit that shit freakin HOA shit.  Well the new head of the HOA noticed my car in front of the house parked there and called to enquire about it...

My sister had called in to say that there is a problem from a nearby park where sewer roaches were going in the backyard and they should call the city to fumigate it.  Instead of being more concerned about that shit she pushed about my car.

Today she came by to check out a crack in the fence and said they can't do anything about it (my sister was out at costco)...she basically told us they wouldn't be fixing the common fence I was like cool have a good day get out...Then she inquired about the BMW and MINI cooper convertible in the front of the house...I said "oh people can't visit or what?"  She's like we just like to know what's going on.  I was like Shut the fuck up - Get out.  My sister will be home in one hour.

See this is exactly the kind of bullshit that pushed us to find an older home in an established neighborhood so I wouldn't have to deal with dumbasses.

I hate first time homeowners who think it's their business to police the neighborhood.

The Latest Thing...

It was time for a new phone and it was also time for a new upgrade.  My previous flip phone was just too small to use online flashcards without scrolling in a circle.  We popped into the AT&T store and I said just give me my freebie with a bigger screen.  My sister and brother had other ideas.  i was really contemplating an IPAD just because it was easier to dock than my laptop.  So instead of getting an ipad and a new phone I just got a hybrid of both.  A gift from my siblings. How nice right?

I have to admit it was kind of weird getting used to it - I'm not really big on the latest thing outside of canning and canning jars. lol.  I used to really be into that but these days not so much.  I just have other concerns.

I must say it only took my bill up about 13-15 bucks a month - not as much as i expected.  I can use 3 gigs of data and still the unlimited phone, text and all that other crap.  To be honest I don't use that much because i'm always sinking to wifi hotspots, school wifi or home.  My bill is about 43 per month - which in my opinion is a steal - other people think "i got suckered into THAT one"  which is really funny coz everyone I know pays upwards of 110 per month per phone.  Last weekend I stoopped by the Korean store and found these hello kitty dust jacks - LOL.  Pretty useless but the latest thing on another continent.  It entertains me to no end.

That's it - that's the latest thing.  Well we have other latest things - but that's for another blog

Lasik Update

Well...I went into the Lasik doctor for a consultation...just to see if I qualify for the Lasik procedure in terms of the health of my eyes and my prescription.  I also wanted to get a price point to see if it was affordable.

I have been wearing contacts and glasses since I was about 13 years old.  I remember being so self conscious about my glasses and felt weird about my contacts.  Also for as long as I can remember I have always been a nightbird and prefer staying up late so for many many years I wore those contacts far longer than I should have, or I would even fall asleep with my glasses on.  I remember a few times I was in such a hurry I would jump into the shower WITH my glasses still on my face. haha.

I checked out some reviews on Yelp and checked some overall reviews.  I made some calls and I went with the guy who had been doing it the longest and had the most procedures (over 40,000 lasik/prk procedures under his belt).  I figured what did it hurt - almost all of them were "free consultations" to prequalify you for surgery and if I decided not to get surgery then I could always just pay for the contact/eyeglass exam and fill my prescription.  But to be honest, I am tired of wearing glasses - my prescription makes for heavy glasses and the contacts I prefer are $28/box even with a discount.  In the last few years I've also been unable to wear them on high pollen days - it's become unbearable.

The place was super busy.  I guess they do all their surgeries on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  People also come in from all over the state and from New Mexico and California to get their surgery done.  The staff are super nice and friendly - and answer all your questions - they must have like 15 exam rooms at that place and only one optometrist and one surgeon.  but it's a pretty speedy process.  I was a bit nervous but I was confident that i would qualify because a few years ago I had a very good optometrist take a 360 degree picture of my eye to also check the internal health of the nerves - actually I still have it on CD.  So then it came to price.  They quoted me 4800 for both eyes which pretty much seems to be the going rate for someone with eyes like mine (myopic -4.25 both eyes).  I told the office manager and the doctor I am a poor student...is there no way that you could bring the price down and I explained about how my eyes are rejecting lenses on high pollen days and i have long study hours AND my glasses are too heavy.  They told me they would be right back.

They came back and told me they could take the price down to 2600 for both eyes including the lifetime assurance that if my eyes fail in the future (with the exception of needing reading glasses due to age)  I could get complimentary adjustments.  That provides that I can put down 1K cash.  The remainder of the balance qualified for 2 years interest free.  Lol my bestie Chef/French Teacher told me that only I could talk a doctor down in price.

Haha.  HAGGLE!  there is a good chance you can get something off or at least something free - I haggle with everyone including doctors and dentists.

So that was about noon and they scheduled me for a 430pm surgery with Custom Lasik on both eyes instead of standard lasik.  So Mom and I grabbed lunch and did a little shopping.  I must admit I was very nervous because  I've never had surgery - I've never even been in a hospital except when I was born or had stitches from a playground fall and a big wheel jump from my grandmothers 3rd story home..

They prepped me for surgery (a bonnet and some gauze around the ears.  They gave me a post op kit and a prescription for antibiotic/inflammatory eyedrops (a whopping total of 27 bucks - haha)  They put me on the table.

The procedure did not hurt.

But...it was weird.  They put the numbing eye drops. They tape back your upper eyelid.  They tape down your lower eyelid.  They put a thingamajig to keep your eye propped.  you stare at a blinking yellowish orange light - they apply a vacuum thing to hold it still, then the blinking light blacks down and you hear this clicking popping - and 23 seconds later that eye is done.  They repeat the procedure on the other eye.

The weirdest part is when they put your lens back and everything immediately jumps to focus.  Then you blink and get up and everything is slightly foggy/misty.  After 30 minutes the numbing drops wear off and it feels horrible.  Those people who do the reviews were lying - the recovery time stings.  It felt like someone squirted a bottle of DAWN liquid soap in my eyes mixed with sand.  I took a 2 hour nap in the car while I waited for my prescription to get filled.  Then we went home and I made tacos (sunglasses on) and then I lay down.  Even if you wanted to you couldn't just go about your day - the sting and ache will force you to take a nap.  I fell asleep from like 8pm to 1130pm and when I woke up I could see the television and all the small details from far away.  The good thing is the pain went away

I put on the clear eyepatches and slept the rest of the night.  I woke up in the morning and was amazed at the difference HOWEVER I did not see small letters very well from far away.  I had an appointment at 345pm the next day - but I went in at 11am because my Friday classes were all cancelled.

My eyes measured 20/30.  I was a bit disappointed.  They laughed and said - it has been less than 24 hours.  They are expecting my eyes to be 20/15 within the week.

I don't regret it and I would recommend it to anyone.

Funny Story - while I was in the lobby waiting - i heard a couple in there talking and the husband really did not want to get it but both of them are getting it.  I could hear that their eyes were also not as bad as mine.  The husband said that they didn't really need it and as he said that he was looking at her fake boobs.  I could tell he had only recently bought those - haha.  I also heard that they were paying 4600 each for the procedure  he said it was substantial - She said,"but we got a $200 discount each."  LOL I was laughing - they got ripped off.  Ain't that something.  LOL.

Right after they went in for surgery another couple came in and the husband was totally sourfaced.  The wife also had fake boobs.  But I looked closely at her and noticed she also had fake lips.  She looked at me and said,"Oh did you get lasik too?"  I said "yes, I had my appointment yesterday at 4pm"  She said,"Are you in pain?"  I said,"No."  She then leaned on her husband and said,"I am."  I had a baffled look on my face and the husband rolled his freakin eyes.  LOL.  She looked at me again and said,"Did you get your lips done too?"  I laughed and said Hell no...

Crazy people.  Just itchin to spend their husbands money.

Its a doggy dog world

I just wanted to let everyone know I'm still around and we are just very busy with life in general.  There are a lot of changes and demands on our time and we are just attacking all of it.  For the most part there has been no snivelling :)

I have been so busy I haven't canned anything in a month and I am going through canning withdrawals!  But as you can see on the left I am also puppysitting/puppy training on behalf of my godbrother and brother - at 15 weeks they are housebroken, sit, fetch and shake.  Not bad - but they have big dogs to mimic!
As you can see from the photo on the left I was given a new phone for my birthday from my siblings - the Samsung Galaxy Note.  I originally went in just to upgrade my phone so I could get something to use with my online flashcards that was a bit faster.  I also wanted to look at getting an Ipad which is great for apps with anatomy, physiology and biology.  This phone gives me both.  It even has a little app where I can mess with photos and send them around, LOL.

I must admit I was shocked when the phone with 3 gigs of data and unlimited everything else brought my entire bill up to 42 bucks a month from the previous 27 bucks. LOL  I'm so frugal I should have an award!

Some hatchet face girl was like OMG how can you have anything that big near your face?  I said, "you mean to tell me you never had anything big in your face?" she said "NO"  I said well that doesn't say much about your husband then does it.  Bwa ahhahahha.

We'll be back soon enough - I hope everyone is well out there and taking advantage of the summer deals!

what the TSA really costs...

Tony contacted me via this blog and asked me to post something he created regarding the TSA and what a waste of resources it is...as they are a government agency we are technically paying them...

Please take the time to check it out and let me know what you think!

Weird Little House #2

Well we sold our house. We are all moved out and temporarily camped at my sisters and all the stuff is in storage or sitting in my sister or brothers garages. We are also currently looking for a new house.

I want to say that we were very fortunate to sell as quickly as we did. But...the buyers were complete assheads. We listed the house on a Thursday night - we had 2 appointments for Friday and around 15 lookers over the weekend.

Click here for pics and listing of the old house

Well by Sunday night we had 2 offers and one of them was for 20K above list. We took it and closed 3 weeks later. Well I remember one day i was at home during the inspection and the lady came during the inspection and I greeted her "hello" Don't you know that bitch walked right by me like she already owned my shit. hahaha! What a clown! You know all I wanted to ask her was if she wanted to keep the garden beds that Afro made out of cedar coz I would have been glad to leave them if she wanted to grow her own food but she wanted to be an assclown.

So she put a few things on the inspection - a slight rewire of the kitchen, professional cleaning and a new disposal. I was like yeah okay cool that's fine. So jump ahead to last week 2 DAYS before closing this COW says she wants the front landscaped and the garage swept and some other ridiculous shit. MIND YOU - I wanted the closing to be March 19th so I would have Spring Break to move - so I was planning this move, studying for midterms and trying to get some last minute canning in (I did it all Hooray! for me)...the buyer also told us that they "couldn't afford 2 moves so could we have a close date of March 15 because the house they were RENTING got short saled under their ass. FINE. So jump to the DAY before close - she wants the pool to be "CRYSTAL CLEAR" lmfaoooooooo. Clown.

Mr. Man was so mad he took apart those garden beds and packed the cedar in the moving pod. Super Unbelievable - I already did that heifer a favor and she gets on some self entitled shit. I took all the life and good luck I brought with me into that house.

Meanwhile the hunt is on for a house.

We are glad to be out of the burbs. I know everyone is saying why don't you move to the country - well with my academic ambitions this is simply not possible. We want to be closer to my Pops In Law and closer to social activities that are not possible in that old neighborhood. Great house - but because of the nature of the real estate market it feels very transient and odd. The people who intend to stay there for awhile are becoming more hermit like and we really don't like them enough to socialize with them. Also I absolutely resent that homeowners fee...when I first bought that house the homeowners was like $65 a month now it is up to $147 a month - for what? for nothing - a few parks and pavement. bullshit.

Click here for Weird House 2 that we looked at.

I really love this old pink adobe home and I hope we get it - but if not - there are some unique houses that come on the market. We are hoping to move into a neighborhood with personality and long time residents or people that love their unique homes. It would be nice to have block parties again or at least know who you live near.
