Well...I went into the Lasik doctor for a consultation...just to see if I qualify for the Lasik procedure in terms of the health of my eyes and my prescription. I also wanted to get a price point to see if it was affordable.
I have been wearing contacts and glasses since I was about 13 years old. I remember being so self conscious about my glasses and felt weird about my contacts. Also for as long as I can remember I have always been a nightbird and prefer staying up late so for many many years I wore those contacts far longer than I should have, or I would even fall asleep with my glasses on. I remember a few times I was in such a hurry I would jump into the shower WITH my glasses still on my face. haha.
I checked out some reviews on Yelp and checked some overall reviews. I made some calls and I went with the guy who had been doing it the longest and had the most procedures (over 40,000 lasik/prk procedures under his belt). I figured what did it hurt - almost all of them were "free consultations" to prequalify you for surgery and if I decided not to get surgery then I could always just pay for the contact/eyeglass exam and fill my prescription. But to be honest, I am tired of wearing glasses - my prescription makes for heavy glasses and the contacts I prefer are $28/box even with a discount. In the last few years I've also been unable to wear them on high pollen days - it's become unbearable.
The place was super busy. I guess they do all their surgeries on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. People also come in from all over the state and from New Mexico and California to get their surgery done. The staff are super nice and friendly - and answer all your questions - they must have like 15 exam rooms at that place and only one optometrist and one surgeon. but it's a pretty speedy process. I was a bit nervous but I was confident that i would qualify because a few years ago I had a very good optometrist take a 360 degree picture of my eye to also check the internal health of the nerves - actually I still have it on CD. So then it came to price. They quoted me 4800 for both eyes which pretty much seems to be the going rate for someone with eyes like mine (myopic -4.25 both eyes). I told the office manager and the doctor I am a poor student...is there no way that you could bring the price down and I explained about how my eyes are rejecting lenses on high pollen days and i have long study hours AND my glasses are too heavy. They told me they would be right back.
They came back and told me they could take the price down to 2600 for both eyes including the lifetime assurance that if my eyes fail in the future (with the exception of needing reading glasses due to age) I could get complimentary adjustments. That provides that I can put down 1K cash. The remainder of the balance qualified for 2 years interest free. Lol my bestie Chef/French Teacher told me that only I could talk a doctor down in price.
Haha. HAGGLE! there is a good chance you can get something off or at least something free - I haggle with everyone including doctors and dentists.
So that was about noon and they scheduled me for a 430pm surgery with Custom Lasik on both eyes instead of standard lasik. So Mom and I grabbed lunch and did a little shopping. I must admit I was very nervous because I've never had surgery - I've never even been in a hospital except when I was born or had stitches from a playground fall and a big wheel jump from my grandmothers 3rd story home..
They prepped me for surgery (a bonnet and some gauze around the ears. They gave me a post op kit and a prescription for antibiotic/inflammatory eyedrops (a whopping total of 27 bucks - haha) They put me on the table.
The procedure did not hurt.
But...it was weird. They put the numbing eye drops. They tape back your upper eyelid. They tape down your lower eyelid. They put a thingamajig to keep your eye propped. you stare at a blinking yellowish orange light - they apply a vacuum thing to hold it still, then the blinking light blacks down and you hear this clicking popping - and 23 seconds later that eye is done. They repeat the procedure on the other eye.
The weirdest part is when they put your lens back and everything immediately jumps to focus. Then you blink and get up and everything is slightly foggy/misty. After 30 minutes the numbing drops wear off and it feels horrible. Those people who do the reviews were lying - the recovery time stings. It felt like someone squirted a bottle of DAWN liquid soap in my eyes mixed with sand. I took a 2 hour nap in the car while I waited for my prescription to get filled. Then we went home and I made tacos (sunglasses on) and then I lay down. Even if you wanted to you couldn't just go about your day - the sting and ache will force you to take a nap. I fell asleep from like 8pm to 1130pm and when I woke up I could see the television and all the small details from far away. The good thing is the pain went away
I put on the clear eyepatches and slept the rest of the night. I woke up in the morning and was amazed at the difference HOWEVER I did not see small letters very well from far away. I had an appointment at 345pm the next day - but I went in at 11am because my Friday classes were all cancelled.
My eyes measured 20/30. I was a bit disappointed. They laughed and said - it has been less than 24 hours. They are expecting my eyes to be 20/15 within the week.
I don't regret it and I would recommend it to anyone.
Funny Story - while I was in the lobby waiting - i heard a couple in there talking and the husband really did not want to get it but both of them are getting it. I could hear that their eyes were also not as bad as mine. The husband said that they didn't really need it and as he said that he was looking at her fake boobs. I could tell he had only recently bought those - haha. I also heard that they were paying 4600 each for the procedure he said it was substantial - She said,"but we got a $200 discount each." LOL I was laughing - they got ripped off. Ain't that something. LOL.
Right after they went in for surgery another couple came in and the husband was totally sourfaced. The wife also had fake boobs. But I looked closely at her and noticed she also had fake lips. She looked at me and said,"Oh did you get lasik too?" I said "yes, I had my appointment yesterday at 4pm" She said,"Are you in pain?" I said,"No." She then leaned on her husband and said,"I am." I had a baffled look on my face and the husband rolled his freakin eyes. LOL. She looked at me again and said,"Did you get your lips done too?" I laughed and said Hell no...
Crazy people. Just itchin to spend their husbands money.

Its a doggy dog world
I just wanted to let everyone know I'm still around and we are just very busy with life in general. There are a lot of changes and demands on our time and we are just attacking all of it. For the most part there has been no snivelling :)
I have been so busy I haven't canned anything in a month and I am going through canning withdrawals! But as you can see on the left I am also puppysitting/puppy training on behalf of my godbrother and brother - at 15 weeks they are housebroken, sit, fetch and shake. Not bad - but they have big dogs to mimic!
As you can see from the photo on the left I was given a new phone for my birthday from my siblings - the Samsung Galaxy Note. I originally went in just to upgrade my phone so I could get something to use with my online flashcards that was a bit faster. I also wanted to look at getting an Ipad which is great for apps with anatomy, physiology and biology. This phone gives me both. It even has a little app where I can mess with photos and send them around, LOL.
I must admit I was shocked when the phone with 3 gigs of data and unlimited everything else brought my entire bill up to 42 bucks a month from the previous 27 bucks. LOL I'm so frugal I should have an award!
Some hatchet face girl was like OMG how can you have anything that big near your face? I said, "you mean to tell me you never had anything big in your face?" she said "NO" I said well that doesn't say much about your husband then does it. Bwa ahhahahha.
We'll be back soon enough - I hope everyone is well out there and taking advantage of the summer deals!

what the TSA really costs...
Tony contacted me via this blog and asked me to post something he created regarding the TSA and what a waste of resources it is...as they are a government agency we are technically paying them...
Please take the time to check it out and let me know what you think!

Weird Little House #2
Well we sold our house. We are all moved out and temporarily camped at my sisters and all the stuff is in storage or sitting in my sister or brothers garages. We are also currently looking for a new house.I want to say that we were very fortunate to sell as quickly as we did. But...the buyers were complete assheads. We listed the house on a Thursday night - we had 2 appointments for Friday and around 15 lookers over the weekend.
Click here for pics and listing of the old house
Well by Sunday night we had 2 offers and one of them was for 20K above list. We took it and closed 3 weeks later. Well I remember one day i was at home during the inspection and the lady came during the inspection and I greeted her "hello" Don't you know that bitch walked right by me like she already owned my shit. hahaha! What a clown! You know all I wanted to ask her was if she wanted to keep the garden beds that Afro made out of cedar coz I would have been glad to leave them if she wanted to grow her own food but she wanted to be an assclown.
So she put a few things on the inspection - a slight rewire of the kitchen, professional cleaning and a new disposal. I was like yeah okay cool that's fine. So jump ahead to last week 2 DAYS before closing this COW says she wants the front landscaped and the garage swept and some other ridiculous shit. MIND YOU - I wanted the closing to be March 19th so I would have Spring Break to move - so I was planning this move, studying for midterms and trying to get some last minute canning in (I did it all Hooray! for me)...the buyer also told us that they "couldn't afford 2 moves so could we have a close date of March 15 because the house they were RENTING got short saled under their ass. FINE. So jump to the DAY before close - she wants the pool to be "CRYSTAL CLEAR" lmfaoooooooo. Clown.
Mr. Man was so mad he took apart those garden beds and packed the cedar in the moving pod. Super Unbelievable - I already did that heifer a favor and she gets on some self entitled shit. I took all the life and good luck I brought with me into that house.
Meanwhile the hunt is on for a house.
We are glad to be out of the burbs. I know everyone is saying why don't you move to the country - well with my academic ambitions this is simply not possible. We want to be closer to my Pops In Law and closer to social activities that are not possible in that old neighborhood. Great house - but because of the nature of the real estate market it feels very transient and odd. The people who intend to stay there for awhile are becoming more hermit like and we really don't like them enough to socialize with them. Also I absolutely resent that homeowners fee...when I first bought that house the homeowners was like $65 a month now it is up to $147 a month - for what? for nothing - a few parks and pavement. bullshit.
Click here for Weird House 2 that we looked at.
I really love this old pink adobe home and I hope we get it - but if not - there are some unique houses that come on the market. We are hoping to move into a neighborhood with personality and long time residents or people that love their unique homes. It would be nice to have block parties again or at least know who you live near.

In Times of Mayhem - Let them Eat Cake...
First Off I had to include this picture that my brother sent me from his phone - it's a stupid app where you plug in your face on different models - hahahaha. It just cracks me up.

This is my youngest customer ever. 2 years old and her grandmother ordered her a white chocolate with Italian buttercream cake. They ordered a cake for 8 people but I just maximized the materials and made something fabulous!
What a sweet kid - Her grandmother even sent me some pictures and her name spelling so there wouldn't be any errors. It always makes you go an extra mile when you see the happy face you are making the cake for.
Mr. Man had his birthday last month and I sent a cake to his work - don't let the photo deceive you. That cake was supposed to be a shotgun shell cake but the cake would not cool. It is a chocolate and 7up cake with italian strawberry buttercream inside. 1 slice of it covers an entire plate - one of his coworkers said he could just eat an entire plate of the strawberry filling. It is very funny because his work gets 1 big cake for everyones birthday for the month and then the next day Mr. Man brings his own cake - even management was stunned by the size of his cake.
I'm glad that everyone loved it.
Random cupcakes for the boys at Shooter's World - they are so nice to us and always let us do our thing and film and we never wait.
I always think that it is good to reciprocate generosity with kindness. I don't think it's right to take something for nothing - or to bring open mouths to nothing.
Very few things separate us from animals; 1) urge control and 2) manners
Last month was also a birthday for our friend Grayv111 - yay - Chocolate on Chocolate with Chocolate Filling and Chocolate Icing with fresh Strawberries.
I am so very thankful that we can afford butter and chocolate and icing...and we can afford to make things for people we love. I've been making cakes and pastries here and there and took a little side job too. It's nice to make it.
One thing that did make me sad is that I'm a bit rusty - and I need some practice and keep my hand a bit more steady - I just no longer write or pipe chocolate anymore. It's kind of hard to balance it with school and whatnot.
For anyone who cares - I have been uploading a series on youtube on what Mr. Man has for lunch - someone mentioned it in passing so It's easy just to film it while I prepare the lunch since I almost prepare it nightly. I think it has already inspired some folks to make their lunches. Yay. Mr. Man showed me this disgusting list 15 disgusting things you eat - including weasel anal glands, red bugs, of course L-Cysteine and feathers and other nasty crap - At least if you make it yourself you minimize the nastiness (at the very least).
Stuff that bugs me:
1) Preppers who really don't have shit and have made excuses about why they haven't put anything up in the last 1-2 years. If they put as much effort into prepping as they do into making excuses they might have food and other things.
2) Critical people who think they know stuff coz they "read about it" and criticize other peoples videos when in fact they don't do anything themselves - but be a keyboard gangsta.
3) Youtube hypocrites: Example: make a video about how harmful BPA is and then microwave your meat in a ziploc bag and buy a ton of canned food lines with plastic. Example: talk about organic, non gmo food - and then eat some KoolAid or Tang. LMFAOOOO Shuuuutttttup. I don't mind what people have - of COURSE I always want people to have the best they can afford and were I rich i would give away high quality food - but i CERTAINLY won't be the ASSHOLE that tells everyone what to do and how everything they do is wrong. I also wouldn't DARE talk about health if my ass looked like 2 beachballs fighting under a bedsheet.
4) Why are people raised in a Spanish speaking home failing Spanish Class? *rolls eyes*
the GOOD NEWS!
Mr. Man got me an AA Canner. Hahahaha.
I'm so excited. I didn't think he actually got it - I thought he was out playing poker.
Click here to see video footage --- I look positively retarded - I am never at a loss for words but i went straight forrest gump when we unboxed that canner. HAHAHA.
I'm gonna just keep being me - I will do a shoutout video for my blogger buddies soon.
Sigh.

Lacking Manners...
Is it Me?Or are most people completely void of manners or etiquette? Mr. Man and I usually let stuff slide and get on with our life which is why we are able to do what we do and stay on top of prepping and life and maintaining this ability to laugh. This January 1st was our 5th year annivesary - I told him that we should just have a New Years Day BBQ and invite about 20-30 of our friends to break bread with us since people are having a hard time and at least we can afford to put up food and have enough to spare.
We didn't really tell anyone it was our anniversary we were just having fun and enjoying hosting. This little get together was also for the purpose of me "squashing beef" from some real impolite bitches who are married to Mr. Mans friends. But they didn't show - HA. Like I said - impolite.
The Menu
1 baked ham with honey mustard glaze
2 racks st louis style ribs
1 heap chicken wings (grill)
93% lean ground beef burgers
1 heap beef hotdogs
ground chicken burgers
teriyaki grilled chicken breast
spanish rice
2 types twice baked potato
garden salad
3 types of eggrolls
black beans
grilled veggies
choco chip cookies
7 up cake.
I was really surprised that no one called to ask if we wanted to bring anything. Not that we needed anything but we never show up at anyones house empty handed. Mr. Man's one friend called and of course we only said ice. Our prepper friends brought 12 dozen - yes DOZEN free range organic eggs for us to use or give away as their chickens are producing so generously.
Our old friends had new girlfriends and I invited a few folks from school. Out of ALL 25 people - only 2 people offered to help - my youngest study buddy and my prepper lady girlfriend. One guy I go to school with sister saw the ham sitting on the counter and said "Can I start eating now or what..." I was like WOW - classy.
Mr. Man and I still made it fun and enjoyed the people we do like - and truthfully I threw the barbecue to also get my prepper girlfriend out the house coz she's been at it for over 6 months with prepping, moving, organizing and life in general and she never gets a break.
One guy I went to school with (the dude with the classy sister) - brought his Mom, sister and niece. No problem. I know they are going through a hard time right now - and thought it would be nice to invite them so they could have a great meal. I even helped them with 40+ moving boxes and clear tape to help them after their home got foreclosed on so they wouldn't have to spend any money on that.
Jump to Yesterday...
Yesterday - the guy I helped with the boxes (yeah, with the classy sister) told me that they had a barbecue and they didn't invite us coz they figured we would be busy. Hahahaha. But he invited my youngest (and very pretty) study buddy. double Hahhaha. I had to calmly explain to him that he would have been better off saying NOTHING...and it was impolite to say such a thing. I also added that it wouldn't have taken but 1 minute to call us even if he knew we were busy with the realtors and the house. He actually sat there and made excuse after excuse as to why he didn't call and who was there and why he didn't call and and endless plethora of SHIT out of his mouth which really just made me laugh. I told him that's all bullshit - the bottom line is unfortunately you were not raised properly and your manners are bad. I said we're cool, now I know where we stand.
I told Mr. Man - and he said WOW - so that's how people reciprocate now? I said yeah I guess so. He said a nation of leeches and sheep then - I will go forward in this life treating strangers with extreme prejudice. I laughed at that and said No...be thankful we get to see people for what they are early in the game.
LOL.
It is very amazing to me how impolite most people are in general - and it seems they are all in this country. Why is it when my godmother comes from Sweden I get chocolate and swiss flints. Why is it when my Texan Prepper Bestie comes to stay for 2 SHORT days she bears nothing but a positive upbeat loving demeanor as well as wine and precious metal! When my other Texan Girlfriend comes with her french husband they come with cognac and french marzipan? It used to be a normal and polite thing to never show up empty handed - even as a small child when I went to slumber parties - my Mom sent me with a tray of eggrolls or a box of snacks for the lot of us little crazy girls.
It's getting harder for me to differentiate rude, insensitive, impolite and just plain crazy.
There was a girl 2 semesters ago in my Psych class who insisted she was 36 but had a 25 year old daughter - YES a 25 yr old daughter and...UM this so called cougar was sleeping with a man 1 year younger than her daughter. Lord Have Mercy. Well she told me that she just kept getting AA degrees so she could continue milking her grant, food stamps, section 8 housing, free cell phone and other assorted forms of assistance. She so proudly told me that in the 6 years she has lived in Arizona she has never worked. Sunnamagun.
Appalling.
There is another girl in my bio class this semester she told everyone so proudly that she is on state assistance, a grant, food stamps and some other stuff I hadn't even heard of - and she gets a high amount of money. She sits in class like a confused little blob full of high fructose syrup and vacant intelligence. I always sit outside the class early and eat a sandwhich usually PBJ or bacon turkey on bread that I make myself - and she said,"Wow, you really like Peanut Butter and Jelly Huh?" I explained that I do, and I like it even more because I make my own bread and jam. She said,"oh you are so lucky you can do all that..." I replied, "oh" Her little 19 year old ass said,"Yeah, you know how it is with kids and all that and I'm pregnant again and I don't know what I'm going to do." I just lifted an eyebrow and walked in the classroom. So today she f*****g sat at my lab table and proceeded to complain about the reading material and all this stuff. I said it's not that hard - he has it all categorized so your memorization is minimal. She said well I don't have a book. I said the school released the book money 2 wks ago - she said, "Oh the 600 bucks, I had to use that on clothes and rent."
Unbelievable. Really. I feel like going out and getting 2 jobs coz all these asswads are relying on my tax dollars. Oh nevermind - even though I don't have a job I still have to pay tax and tags on my car and I still have property taxes.
Mr. Man and I are having an extraordinarily difficult time being accommodating towards others. We have a very hard time dealing with people who dig themselves in wholes and make excuse after excuse after excuse about why their performance or behavior is poor. We have a hard time dealing with people who have no preparations or cannot even put up basic food and supplies for their existing family because "times are hard." Maybe we expect to much of the human race because we trim our budget up so much that we have a lot of preps and I put a lot of effort into what we do. We have a hard time being sympathetic to people who have money for drink, football games and home decor but don't have more than a weeks food.
Extreme Prejudice is a phrase that keeps replaying itself in my head.
And since when is telling the truth being "mean?"
This is some bullshit.
